Judges
KARINA BANNO is an Australian actor, writer, director and producer. She starred as Jules in the ABC series Barons and as Gisselle in Lifetime/A&E’s The Ruby Landry Saga, with further screen credits including Mr Inbetween, The Letdown, Reckoning and Friday on My Mind. Behind the camera, Karina has written, directed and produced independent screen projects including In the Red, The Unfortunate Files and @BladeRoller: Case Unsolved. She also works as a Content Producer at Spicy Tiger Creative, bringing together her experience in narrative filmmaking, performance, advertising and content production.
Acclaimed Australian casting director and Randwick resident DAVID NEWMAN CGA brings more than 30 years of industry experience across commercials, feature films, and television drama. As partner at McSweeney/Newman Casting, Dave has helped cast some of Australia’s most successful screen productions and is widely respected for his eye for authentic performance and emerging talent. He was Australian Casting Associate on the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries The Pacific, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, where he conducted more than 3,000 auditions nationwide. Former President of the Casting Guild of Australia (2020–2022), Dave is recognised for his collaborative approach, industry leadership, and longstanding contribution to the Australian screen sector.

BURNIE PARK COMMUNITY CENTRE, 1R Burnie St, Clovelly NSW 2031, Creative Filmmaking Workshop (Ages 8–11)
Our Creative Filmmaking Workshops for ages 8–17 held in the July school holidays brought young filmmakers, actors and storytellers together for a hands-on introduction to creating stories for the screen. Across the workshops, participants developed original ideas, created characters, performed for camera and experimented with phone filmmaking, directing, camera angles, shot design, visual storytelling and improvisation.
Working collaboratively, they took ideas from concept through to filming their own scenes and short-form content. The workshops were designed to make filmmaking creative, accessible and practical, encouraging young people to tell their own stories and develop work that could be submitted to the Local Tides Film Festival. From first ideas to getting behind and in front of the camera an inspiring programme of young people making, performing and telling stories on screen.
