Acclaimed Australian casting director and Randwick resident DAVID NEWMAN CGA brings more than 30 years of industry experience across commercials, feature films, and television drama. As partner at McSweeney/Newman Casting, Dave has helped cast some of Australia’s most successful screen productions and is widely respected for his eye for authentic performance and emerging talent. He was Australian Casting Associate on the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries The Pacific, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, where he conducted more than 3,000 auditions nationwide. Former President of the Casting Guild of Australia (2020–2022), Dave is recognised for his collaborative approach, industry leadership, and longstanding contribution to the Australian screen sector.

Creative Filmmaking Workshop (Ages 8–11)
A fun, hands-on filmmaking workshop designed for creative kids aged 8–11 years who love storytelling, acting and making videos using phones and simple filmmaking techniques.

Participants will work together to create their own short scenes and mini films while exploring: Storytelling and creative ideas; Acting and performance for camera; Filming with phones; Camera angles and visual storytelling; Character creation and improvisation; Basic directing and teamwork.

Designed to inspire young creators to develop their own stories and short films, the workshop encourages participants to explore ideas they may wish to submit to the Local Tides Film Festival.

Perfect for young creators who love performing, storytelling and bringing ideas to life on screen.

Creative Filmmaking Workshop (Ages 12–17)
An exciting and practical filmmaking workshop for teens aged 12–17 years interested in content creation, storytelling, acting and filmmaking using phones and accessible filmmaking tool.

Participants will explore how to create engaging short-form film content while developing skills in: Storytelling and script ideas; Acting and performance for camera; Filming with phones and visual composition; Directing scenes and working with actor; sCreative shot design and camera movement; Building confidence on and off camera.

The workshop is designed to inspire emerging young filmmakers to create original content and develop ideas that could be entered into the Local Tides Film Festival.

Perfect for aspiring filmmakers, performers, creators and storytellers wanting to explore screen storytelling in a fun, modern and hands-on way.
